Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Romans 3:10- As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one.
Romans 3:23- For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
1 John 1:8- If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
According to scripture, there is not a single man to walk the earth (except for Jesus) that has not committed sin. We all come short of God’s glory because of it, and there are consequences of it.
Romans 6:23- For the wages of sin is death…
We know that wages means earning, so because of our sin, we earn death. When we die in our physical body, that is not the end though.
Hebrews 9:27- And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
One day, we are going to stand accountable to the Lord, and we will be judged. One of the two following outcomes will follow. Heaven, or Hell.
Jesus had also described hell as a place “Where their worm dieth not, and their fire is never queched.” (Mark 9:44) Hell is a place of eternal torment in flames for sin that was still on people’s souls when they died.
Revelation 21:8- But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and ALL LIARS, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Notice how I capitalized ALL LIARS. There is not a single person, myself included, who hasn’t told a lie before. I showed that part to show to you how that no matter what sin is committed, it makes you deserving of hell, because our sin is infinitely grotesque. Consider the following verse as well.
James 2:10- For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
God does not want you to make the decision to go to hell though. Consider the following.
2 Peter 3:9- The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
We know that all have sinned and are deserving of hell, but the Bible also says, that there will be people in heaven. They had sinned on earth, so even though they are in heaven, their sin still had to be paid for, and it was. Consider the following.
Romans 5:8- But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 14:9- For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
We know that Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son, but also God in the flesh.
John 10:30-33- I (Jesus) and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father, for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him saying, For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou being a man, makest thyself God.
God is a God of mercy, but He is also a God of fairness, and a God of justice, therefore by His own will, our sin had to be paid for, even though some will be in heaven, and it had to be someone sinless since we all come short because of sin so God came to us in the form of a human, Jesus Christ the Son, living a perfect, sinless life, never committing any sin, NOT ONCE, but He was flogged, had a crown of thorns put on His head, and went up on the cross taking punishment for our sin as if He had committed them Himself, even though He didn’t, because it had to be someone sinless. He was buried, and rose again three days later.
Now, to receive the gift of eternal life, you must come to realization that you are a sinner that has come short of God’s glory, deserving of hell, realizing that there is nothing you can do to save yourself, and you must put your faith in Christ’s blood shed work on the cross, His death, His burial, and His resurrection to save you. Taking us to the most famous verse in the Bible.
John 3:16- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Believing in Jesus doesn’t mean just believing in His existence. It means what was said above, putting your faith ONLY in His bloodshed work to wash your sins away. You do not work for your salvation, the work was already done by Christ on the cross. Consider more verses.
John 6:40- And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up on the last da
John 11:25- Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall live.
Acts 2:21- An it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved
Acts 16:31- And they said, Believe on The Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, an thy house.
Romans 4:3- For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness.
Romans 4:5- But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Romans 5:1- Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Galatians 3:26- For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus
Ephesians 2:8-9- For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
There are over 100 verses in the Bible about how salvation is about faith alone in Christ as your Savior, and not your own works. He already did the needed work. Once you put your faith in His death, burial, and resurrection, His blood is applied to you, and all your sins, including any future sins, are washed away, and you have everlasting life in heaven. You do not have to stop sinning in order to be saved or stay saved, as that is impossible as long as you are in the flesh, though you should make an effort to for discipleship sake, it is NOT a requirement for salvation. Once you receive the gift of everlasting life, you can never lose it, or else it wouldn’t be called everlasting, nor would it be a gift if God later took it away because of something you did, and you don’t have to worry, because He won’t. There are many parts of the Bible that prove eternal security, also known as Once Saved Always Saved, but here are just a few.
John 10:28- And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Ephesians 1:13- In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Ephesians 4:30- And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Hebrews 13:5- Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Here is just one last thing.
Galatians 1:9- As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Salvation is grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and once received, it is permanent. If anyone tells you otherwise, let him be accursed. In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.
