The Bloodless Gospel of John MacArthur

John MacArthur from Grace To You ministries, has gone on record of his hardcore works salvation teaching. The name of his ministry is very ironic, as there is nothing graceful in his ministry.  What makes him so dangerous is how he knows to come off as a very intelligent intellectual, while on the inside, being spiritually perverse, concerning salvation.  MacArthur teaches that you must surrender everything, and make Jesus the Lord of your life, before you can be saved. The only surrender you make to get saved is the pride of trying to get to heaven by your own merit. You’re a sinner, and there is nothing in this world you can do to save yourself, and you put your faith is Christ to save you.  Surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus is part of growing in grace, which can’t happen until after you are saved.  You are born as a babe in Christ, and it is impossible to be fully grown before you are born.  The only surrender you make to get saved is the pride of trying to get to heaven by your own merit. You’re a sinner, and there is nothing in this world you can do to save yourself, and you put your faith is Christ to save you.  John MacArthur teaches it backwards.  Below is an actual quote of his.

The Gospel says, ‘give your life to Christ and He rules’ and if you’re not willing to do that it’s because you want to keep the rule of your own life. The rich young man wanted his own life for himself. He wanted to control his own life. He had his choice: sins, he had his choice, religion, and he wanted to hang onto control. It’s that simple. Coming to Christ means you give up the control of your life, and you yield it to Christ. That’s what kept him from salvation, he was unwilling to do that.”

First off, MacArthur is wrong about the rich young man.  Jesus was simply showing him that self righteousness is flawed.  You can see more detail here, but even more cringe worthy, is what John MacArthur teaches the Gospel says, as the Gospel says the exact opposite of what he claims.  It teaches that Christ gave His life for you.

However, there is more to this devil.  It is clear in the Bible, that we are saved by Christ’s bloodshed work, but John MacArthur teaches, that Christ’s blood is not necessary for salvation.  He claims that only Jesus’ death is what matters.  You can see him teaching this here.  Now don’t get me wrong, Jesus did also need to die because “the wages of sin is death” and He needed to be resurrected to defeat death, but the blood, is very necessary.  I think that what MacArthur said in that video, is one of the most devilish things I have ever heard.

To begin refuting this devilish doctrine, we will start by going back to the death of the passover lamb in Exodus 12.  In verse 7 we read  “And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat.”  Then you jump to verse 13 where you read “and the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: AND WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I will pass over you, and the plague, shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

This is about when God was sending plagues upon the land of Egypt because of their pagan gods and enslavement of the Israelites, and God had reached a point, where he was going to send a plague, that would take the lives of all of the firstborn in the land of Egypt, and the sacrifice of the passover lamb, was a way for people who took part, to escape this plague.

You see that the passover lamb’s death itself was not enough to exclude anyone from the plague.  The lamb’s blood had to be applied to the doorposts of the home.  Reading verses 1 and 4, will make it very clear what these sacrifices in the Old Testament were about.

Hebrews 10:1,4- [1] For the law having a SHADOW of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. [4] For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

What Paul is saying here, is the Old Testament tabernacle, holy of holies, mercy seat and priestly work of atonement, were all “SHADOWS” of things to come, and what was that referring to?  It was referring to the blood shed work of Jesus.  Just like the lamb’s shed blood needed to be applied to the doorposts is Exodus 12, the same was true with the blood of Jesus, being applied to the mercy seat in heaven.

the blood applications in the Old Testament were a shadow of that.  Christ was slain on the cross for us, enter unto death for us, and immediately went to heaven when He arose, entered the holy of holies in heaven, and applied his blood to the mercy seat before the throne of God.  Hebrew 9:12 will make that very clear.

Hebrews 9:12- Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

That is talking about Jesus applying His blood to the heavenly mercy seat before the throne of God.  John chapter 20 will make this very clear when it happened.  On the morning of the resurrection, Jesus meets Mary in the tomb, and the moment she recognized Him, she would have kissed his feet.  Then he stopped her saying “touch me not” followed by a reason.

John 20:17- Jesus smith unto her, Touch me not; For I am not yet asceneded to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your  Father; and to my God, and your God.

You will understand why He said this, when you remember the high priest after he offered the sacrifice, he was to enter the holy of holies with the blood before he did anything else.  No one was allowed to approach Him, and everyone was shut out until this was complete.  That is exactly why Jesus, forbade Mary to touch Him.  It was a fulfillment of what we read of the sacrifices in the Old Testament, because remember they were “a shadow of things to come.”

1 Peter 1:18-19- [18] Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; [19] But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

There Peter is making a direct reference to the lamb sacrifices in the Old Testament saying just like Paul (though not directly) that they were a “shadow of things to come.”  The passover lamb had to be without blemish and without spot, and that was a shadow of Jesus being without sin, because He had to take our sin upon Himself.  Jesus is called “Lamb of God” for this reason.  He is the second member of the Godhead.  You have the Father, the Son, and The Holy Spirit.  Three persons, one God, and Jesus, the Son, was the sacrificial lamb.

John MacArthur accuses us of turning Jesus’ blood in to a fetish, likening the necessity of His blood unto magic, and all other bodily fluids.  We know, His blood isn’t “magic” MacArthur.  It is Holy, righteous, and acceptable before God.  He says that Jesus’ blood was merely representing His death, and we see that is false, as I have made t very clear that the literal blood of the passover lamb was a shadow of the literal blood of Jesus Christ, and tops it off by saying that he isn’t teaching anything different then Christianity has taught in it’s entire existence.  Well, if that’s the case MacArthur, then I guess you need to explain old hymns about the blood of Christ.  Why William Cowper who back in 1772  penned the words “There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins, and sinners plunged beneath the flood, lose all their guilty stains.  The dying thief rejoiced to see, the fountain in his day, and there may I though vile as He wash all my sins away. E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream thy flowing wounds supply, redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.”

John MacArthur is teaching the exact opposite of what Christianity taught of the blood throughout its history.  John MacArthur is a devil, full of teachings that will take you straight to hell, should you believe them.  Steer clear of this devil, false prophet.
